Tips on How to make Soap by Bon Logic

Making soap is so much fun and it's easier than you think.  All you need is sodium hydroxide (lye), I know it can be a bit intimidating, but if you follow the rules and be careful, it's not as bad as you think.
Then you need oils.  I use palm, olive oil and coconut oil but you can create any type of soap you want by using a lye calculator, available online, just search on google.

Just mix and lye with COLD water and let it cool down, because it heats up instantly to about 200^.  In the meantime mix all our oils in a pot together and heat to 95-105^.  The lye needs to be at the same temperature.  Then get a plastic pail and mix the lye and oils together.  Use a stick blender and blend until you see a trace on the surface of the soap batch.  Stop blending and pull the stick blender out and going across the top but not touching the surface.  If you see a line where you've been, its ready for the essential or fragrance oils of your choice.  If your adding ground oatmeal or another additive, add it before the fragrance.  Be careful not to blend too much after adding the fragrance oils. You can also use natural micas, oxides or approved dyes for color.  I use a wooden mold lined with plastic.  You just pour it in after it's mixed.  Cover it with an insulated board (foam type), Let it sit 24-36 hours and then you can cut it using a soap cutter.  And there you have it, beautiful soap.  It will need to cure for 4 weeks before using it.  The curing allows the lye to replace the oils becoming natural glycerin. :)
